The District Alliance for Safe Housing, Inc. (DASH) announced today that it received $ 5,000 from the Verizon Wireless HopeLine phone recycling program.
The contribution will be used to help connect survivors of domestic violence in the community to direct services and programs, such as access to safe housing and innovative homelessness prevention services.
The Verizon Wireless HopeLine program converts donated cell phones into funding to support domestic violence prevention and awareness programs. To date, HopeLine has collected more than 10 million phones; awarded more than $ 18 million in cash grants to domestic violence agencies and organizations throughout the country; and distributed more than 150,000 wireless phones to victims needing an emergency means of communication.
Verizon Wireless is proud to partner with national and local organizations, such as DASH, to increase awareness of domestic violence and further prevention efforts, said Melanie Ortel, spokesperson for Verizon Wireless. Together, and though our continued support of organizations such as these, we empower domestic violence victims on their journeys to live lives free of abuse and help change lives by breaking the cycle of violence.
Through HopeLine, the public can help prevent domestic violence by donating no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories in any condition from any service provider at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store, by downloading shipping labels at (http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/aboutus/pdfs/hopelinemailinglabel.pdf) to donate their phones by mail or at special events held throughout the year. Wireless phones given to HopeLine are refurbished and sold for reuse, generating proceeds for the program. Refurbished phones complete with 3,000 minutes of wireless service and text-messaging service are provided to local domestic violence agencies or local government and law enforcement agencies for use with their domestic violence clients.
