Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples invites Texans across the state to celebrate Texas food and wine by eating at a GO TEXAN Restaurant on Wednesday, Oct. 1, as part of the first-ever statewide dine-out day. Called the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up, the inaugural event celebrates locally produced foods and the expanding Texas wine industry. Many participating restaurants have pledged to donate a portion of the day’s proceeds to Texas food banks.
For the event, participating restaurants will offer special Texas menu items, a fixed-priced Texas meal, a Texas food and wine pairing or a Texas wine list. In addition, the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up serves to kick off Texas Wine Month in October.
“I am excited to celebrate our restaurants that serve fresh, local ingredients and quality Texas foods through the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up,” Commissioner Todd Staples said. “And since some of the proceeds benefit local food banks, it’s a good time diners can feel good about.”
Texas singer/songwriters Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison are GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up celebrity ambassadors. Enthusiastic locavores, the duo voiced a statewide radio spot to promote the event.
“It’s so important to support local growers and farmers’ markets, especially given the bounty of fresh produce, artisan foods and Texas wines that truly represent the Lone Star State,” Willis said. “We’re thrilled to support the GO TEXAN Restaurant Program and Texas-grown products, and Bruce and I want to encourage all of our fellow Texans to dine out with us on Oct. 1.”
